MEET MARY

Hon. Mary E. Porter

Hon. Mary E. Porter has devoted her professional life to public service, the law, and the fair administration of justice. Her career spans criminal prosecution, human rights, court administration, and judicial service.

Born in Washington, D.C., Mary was raised by her grandparents, Oliver and Evelyn, whose values of hard work, integrity, and service to others helped shape her path. They instilled in her the importance of education, community, and treating others with dignity and respect.

Mary graduated cum laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Business Administration before earning her Juris Doctor from Temple University School of Law.

She began her legal career as a Manhattan Assistant District Attorney and later served as Executive Director of the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission. She also served as Principal Law Clerk to Suffolk County's District Administrative Judge, gaining extensive experience in court administration.

Since January 2022, Judge Porter has served on the Suffolk County Family Court bench. In 2023, she was recognized as Judge of the Year by the Suffolk County Court Officers Benevolent Association.

Today, she is a candidate for New York State Supreme Court in the 10th Judicial District, representing Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
